If you plan to sign up for the virtual queue at 1:00 PM, you and everyone in your party need to be inside the park. As things aren’t open at 7:00 AM, you don’t have to be physically in the park to join a boarding group, but you must have a park reservation and ticket for that day. There are two daily opportunities to join a boarding group at 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM on the day of your visit. When Can I Request Access to a Boarding Group? You can purchase them once per day, which costs $10 to $20 per person, with a maximum of two different rides per day. This means you can pay to ride and not worry about getting a boarding group, which will still be available if you need it. Later that day, during Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween Party, we used the virtual queue to ride it again, and we were in line for 45 minutes!įor an additional cost, which varies by park, Disney Genie+ allows you to use the Lightning Lane to skip lines for most attractions, and for extremely popular ones, you will pay per ride, and this even includes those with virtual queues, including Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Tron Lightcycle / Run. For example, we purchased individual Lightning Lanes for Tron, and it only took us 10 minutes to get on the ride. If you want to skip it all and head straight to the ride, there is also an option called individual Lightening Lane, which you can purchase for select attractions. There might be a short line, anywhere from a 10- to 30-minute wait, but it’s undoubtedly faster than if it were a standby line. At the entrance, tap your card/phone or MagicBand to enter. When your boarding group is called with a push notification, you’ll have one hour to return to the ride, with a 20-minute grace period after the one-hour window has passed. Once you snag a boarding group, you’ll see your group number and an estimated wait time, as well as the boarding groups that are currently allowed to enter, which gives you a better idea of timing as the wait times are estimates and can be off. However, only one person needs to join the boarding group. Make sure everyone in your party is listed in the Family and Friends list or as guests before you request access. Rides offering virtual queues will have a module on the homepage with details. The best way to find out which attractions are using a virtual queue is by using the app. Virtual queues are available to anyone with a valid park admission, regardless if you are staying on-property or not. To join a boarding group, you first need to download the My Disney Experience app and link to your ticket and have a reservation for the park you’re visiting. Another perk of the virtual queue is you can enjoy other experiences while you wait! How Does Virtual Queue Work? After the initial excitement of the ride opening wears off, Disney usually pauses the virtual queue and implements a stand-by line and a Lightening Lane, just like all the other rides in the parks. So far, the virtual queue system has only been implemented for new rides to help control the crowds and wait times. If there are delays or maintenance issues, which is rare, your boarding group may not be called, which means you won’t get to go on the ride that day. I emphasize could because having a boarding group doesn’t guarantee you a spot on the ride. Instead, you are given a boarding group that could be called back to the ride. Introduced in 2019, the virtual queue is a way for guests to ride an attraction without physically having to wait in line.
